About
About New South Wales Masters Athletics
New South Wales Masters Athletics (NSWMA) caters to male and female athletes aged 30 years and over. We are:
- The State Association for Masters Athletes in NSW, and
- An affiliated Club of Athletics NSW.
Our focus is to promote, encourage and host athletics events specifically for masters age groups, providing opportunities for competition, participation and connection at all levels.
Governance & Affiliation
Our national governing body is Australian Masters Athletics (AMA).
Masters athletics competitions are conducted in 5-year age groups, for example:
- W30 – women aged 30–34
- M45 – men aged 45–49
This structure applies across all track and field events, ensuring fair and enjoyable competition.
Masters athletics proudly represents fitness, fun and friendship, offering a welcoming environment for athletes of all abilities.
Participation-Focused Sport
Masters athletics is about participation first.
There are no qualification standards required for any masters event held worldwide.
If you are a masters-age athlete joining your local Athletics NSW club, becoming a member of NSW Masters Athletics as well provides additional benefits, including:
- Eligibility to set NSW, Australian and World Masters records
- Access to state, national and international championships
- Opportunities to compete across a wide range of events and age groups
- Connection to a strong and supportive masters athletics community
Inclusion & Community
Participating in sport is valuable and meaningful for everyone.
Masters athletics can play a powerful role in supporting Australia’s culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.
Sport helps newly arrived migrants and community members by:
- Building social connections
- Supporting language development
- Encouraging belonging and wellbeing
Our Inclusion Program and Come and Try Days provide a welcoming, low-pressure introduction to athletics. These opportunities allow people who are new to the sport to experience competition without stress, helping them build confidence and enjoyment at their own pace.
