Nationals
AMA 2021 National Championships Cancellation

The Local Organising Committee of the 2021 AMA National Track and Field Championships has recommended to the AMA Board the scheduled event for March 2021 be cancelled due to uncertainty over the COVID-19 situation.

Despite the extensive efforts the Canberra 2021 Local Organising Committee has made In preparation for the event, to the extent that opening of registrations was imminent, the current COVID-19 outbreaks and State border closures mean that the committee is not prepared to carry on because of the continuing uncertainty.

In consultations with the AMA, the Local Organising Committee also considered postponing to later in 2021, but there was agreement the uncertainty is likely to continue for some time. Therefore, with much regret, the committee wishes to relinquish the 2021 hosting rights, rather than defer to 2022, in the hope that the 2022 hosts are able to proceed with greater confidence.

We wish the hosts of the 2022 Championships all the best, and offer every support to the next hosts to make the 2022 AMA National Championships, the first in three years, the best ever. We realise this comes at great disappointment to many athletes, but the event needs a greater degree of certainty, for both the organisers and the competitors, to proceed.

We extend our sincere apologies to all, and cite these unprecedented circumstances as the driver of our decision.
