Training Course

The Australian Athletics Officials’ Education Scheme (AAOES) is a joint initiative of Athletics Australia and Coles Little Athletics Australia, providing a seamless and transparent education pathway for Australian Athletics Officials.

The scheme is endorsed by the Australian Sports Commission and follows best industry practice, with online learning coupled with face-to-face delivery. The aim of the Australian Athletics Officials’ Education Scheme is to ensure an effective and efficient education framework is provided to guarantee Australian Athletics Officials remain world leaders in event delivery at all levels of athletic competition.

The following information outlines the process for Officials to engage with Officials’ education in Australia.

Getting started is easy: 

  1. Complete the 

  2. Move on to the 

  3. Once you have completed Level 1, make contact with Tamara at our local member association, ANSW. They can assist in providing opportunities for you to utilise the knowledge you have learned through the online courses

The specific levels of this scheme delivered within Australia are:

  • Club/Centre/School Official AAOES Level 1

  • State Level Official AAOES Level 2

  • National Level Official AAOES Level 3


The Australian Athletics Officials’ Education Scheme is complemented by two additional invitation-only courses, which are delivered at Oceania Athletics Association or International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) level. These courses are designed to allow Australian Athletics Officials the opportunity to advance their education past that of existing national officiating levels.

Ever wanted to learn how to properly use the Electronic Distance Measurement devices used at athletics competitions?


Registrations are now open for our new EDM Training Course, to be run by our EDM expert Gavin Murray.


Free for our NSWMA members.


Course will start at 11am, take about 2 hours, and will

be held at Rotary Field West Chatswood.


A certificate will be presented upon satisfactory completion.
